Following weeks of tension, schemes and sabotage, Celebrity Traitors has reached a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This piece reveals details from Celebrity Traitors finale
Throughout the season, audiences saw eliminations, betrayals, serious side-eye, and a memorable moment that cut through all suspense.
However on the final evening, the final winner of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors emerged triumphant.
From 19 contestants, just a handful remained: Deceivers and faithfuls competing for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to only three contenders: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr was crowned the champion, in a shocking result that went viral and made him tearful.
"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he exclaimed, admitting to the other players that he'd always been a traitor. "I'm an awful human being."
"You did brilliantly," they consoled him. "It's all right."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," commented a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a more iconic ending," stated another, while a third called it "the television highlight of the year."
His chosen charity, Neuroblastoma UK, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching £87,500.
Alan Carr's transformation from giggle liability to strategic player was one of the standout highlights of the series.
But his win still shocked viewers surprised, as noted by entertainment reporters.
"The thought of him, among everyone, pulling off a masterclass in deception felt about as likely as him keeping composure through one of his own punchlines."
On subsequent discussions, the other contestants summed up the reasons nobody had ever really suspected him.
"He might have come down to breakfast in traitor attire and I wouldn't have believed he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," one participant said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how can you vote for someone who is so charming?" questioned a different contestant.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the show.
"I'd like to participate once more... I doubt it would work a second time!"
The final installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on television. It had an unusual opening than usual, as every celebrity were aware who'd make it at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as the episode revisited some moments from every remaining player's experience in the game.
As ever, Alan Carr gave us some of the most memorable lines.
"Let's face it, I started the competition as something of a nervous wreck. I've thrown some really good friends to save myself, I've murdered beloved figures in plain sight. I'm clearly more deceptive and traitor than I thought."
Meanwhile, a different player commented that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for England", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, various contestants appeared to be making a bid to become the new style icon of the competition, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal resembling a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, later switching into an embellished light-colored outfit.
But he was out-jacketted by a fellow player's maroon velvet tuxedo. What a look.
Following this was the competition, with the final players boarding a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge saw them ripping up portraits of eliminated players. Spare a thought for one participant who was hit in the head THREE times by the lid of a heavy wooden box.
Soon after, it was time for the roundtable.
Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've come a long way, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," said a player, while the other just giggled.
However, one did stick to their agreement. But, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver looked like to be experiencing a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm unpredictable, a rudderless ship."
Social media and viewers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against that player to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," commented an observer.
"You will forever be remembered in the show's legacy," wrote another user.
But there was no time to focus on this departure. Soon, the game reached the endgame - this being what we were really all here for.
The last players gathered around the ceremonial fire. And the alliance collapsed, just when it was most crucial, in an absolutely shocking development.
One contestant was painfully banished - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.
"This pains me to be stabbed in the back at the final moment in that manner," said the ousted contestant. Subsequently, we learned that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to their former ally by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, just three players remained in the game: the final trio.
A contestant, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by a different player, and everything depended on the final participant, who made the identical choice - resulting in the traitor emerged victorious.
For observers, the moment where the other players consoled the champion was "beautiful TV". "I anticipate it could be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they commented.
Fortunately, the champion quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate the moment.
"Such an emotional journey. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and here I am the champion," he said.
He also made light of that infamous murder - his close ally during the initial stages - by leaning toward the host in the concluding moments and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, scheming and sometimes surprising incidents may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
